Location Description

 

Port Macquarie on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, is one of the State's largest towns and a popular holiday destination.

Some 420 km north of Sydney, 'Port' as the locals refer to it, is truly a town that has something to offer everyone - from tourists who are drawn to the town's surfing beaches, amenities and coastal rainforest, to locals both young and old who want to enjoy a relaxed comfortable lifesytle.

Port Macquarie and the region is currently home to approximately 65,000 people. The median age of residents is 43 years.

The average daily maximum temperature is 22 degrees.

Attractions

Cruises and Water Activities - available on the Hastings River.

Wineries - Including Cassegrains Winery, one of the first wineries to prove you can produce world class wines without being in a recognised wine growing region.

As Australia's first resort and third oldest penal settlement, Port Macquarie has a long history and a bright future.

Port Macquarie boasts 13 beaches, several National Parks and mountain and river scenery.

Port Macquarie has a good range of award winning restaurants (at last count over 60) and cafes, catering for visitors and residents.

Transport

There are local buses for getting around town.

The XPT train from Sydney stops at nearby Wauchope, and local buses travelling on to Port Macquarie meet the train. The whole trip takes around seven and a half hours.

Port Macquarie also has its own airport with regular services to major centres via 'Qantaslink' and other regional airlines.
